Mail in Canada

I have always found the Canada Post to provide fast reliable service at
reasonable cost. It has been my experience that service by mail is, on
average, 2 days faster than UPS and only about one quarter the cost.

Living in a small town, I get to meet and know the postal workers. They are
just people like the rest of us. Sure there are some loud mouthed radicals
in the larger centers, but for the most part they are all talk.

I suppose being a civil servant for over 30 years has caused me to have some
sympathy for them. How many times in the last 7 years have piano technicians
raised their rates? I had no increase in salary for the last 7 years of my
career.

I think the main reason for the strike was Canada Post's plan to lay off
4,000 employees. We are fast becoming a nation of unemployed. Just think,
some of those 4,000 workers own pianos. Once laid off, they may not be able
to afford to have them tuned. That could have an affect on our incomes too.

Just my opinion
