I am restoring an 1845 Knabe & Gaehle Square Piano. Unfortunately the dampers had been removed when I got it. I have the dampers whose top wooden parts are 3/4", 7/8", 1" and 1 1/8" long. Does anyone having a square piano know if these lengths are monotonically decreasing going up or down the scale or whether the lengths are intersperced? Does anyone have any ideas on how to determine the correct order and which damper lengths are missing? Unfortunately the strings are off the piano at the moment. The number and length of the dampers are shown below # 5 3/4" 5 7/8" 23 1" 12 1-1/8" Total=45, some are missing since the total number of dampers is 56. |---length-----| |_______________ |______________| |____| | pad | wire | damper unit | side view | =========================================================================== >>>>> Story now completely extracted like aching tooth - Charlie Chan <<<<< rlang@netdoor.com *** Visit my home page at http://www2.netdoor.com/~rlang/knabe.htm ***
