>From Sy Zabrocki The Sohmer was built better than the average piano for many years. In = later years their 45" 45S studio and their 41" console had the same = scale. I once measured them out. I always thought this was a form of = cheating. If a studio was ordered, you were entitled to a studio, not = their console in a 45" cabinet. The Kohler & Campbell spinet and console = had the same scale also. The Baldwin 40" and 42=BD" console had the same = scale (I'm quite sure).=20 Pianos made in the USA have all but vanished. They go insane when the humidity changes and the inharmonicity at the bottom of the middle section is bolistic. = I have five of them at Rutgers and hate each one except one which has a climate control system installed which keeps the pitch up. They are good pianos, strong and sound good when regulated. I had one in the pit of a broadway show which I tuned once a week. I also had two Yamahas, one Winter 45", another Yamaha and a Young Chang. The Sohmer _ALWAYS_ required much more tuning than the others, = also tuned one a week. Sohmers are not amount my most favored pianos only because they go too far out of tune. Newton nhunt@rci.rutgers.edu
