Have been following this thread also-one thing I have tried and works (sometimes) in cases when tapping the string down doesn't (eliminate false beats) is taking needle-nose vice grips and turning the bridge pin at least 45 degrees-this gets the string off of the flat spot and helps where tapping doesn't.
