List, I have a client with an older model Steinway S #293017. Instead of legs, the piano sits on a T-shaped pedestal. There is no lyre per se. The trapwork and pedal rods are contained within the crosspiece of the T. Steinway refers to this piano as sketch 1041. It dates to 1938 The customer likes the piano but would prefer a more traditional leg configuration. This would also necessitate installing a conventional lyre. Couple questions: Has anyone else run across a Steinway like this and possibly made these modifications? Perhaps more importantly, would making such modifications diminish the value of this particular piano? Although Steinway refers to their art cases by sketch number, art case seems to be a stretch of the imagination here. Regards, jack J. Kehe, piano craftsman Chicago
