Hi James,

Sounds worse than it probably is, a lot of tuners in the U.K. don't
retire they just die, and it has been known for one or two of them to
die on the job. I cover roughly a 25 mile radius which incorporates a
lot of small towns and some rather large ones, I am geographically well
placed in between two of the largest towns in England.

Out of the piano tuners that I have mentioned, most of them appear in
the four Yellow pages which covers my area, it used to be one. Out of
the 23 plus tuners only six of us, belong to a professional
organisation. 2 ABPT 4 PTA and 3 have duel membership in the IMIT.

in our country, professional organisation set a minimum fee, members
tend to keep to the minimum fee. The fee for my area is £22.00 but I
charge £28.00 for regular customers. A mere pittance, to the prices
some on the list have been quoting for their work. Even tuners in the
more affluent areas of South of England can only get away with £40.00
per tuning.

Take care,

Barrie.
