Here is some things to compare

This is for the North of England you can add as much as 50% for the
south of England.

A meal for two in an average restaurant  £35.00

A pair of shoes £16 to £70 

A 4 oz jar of instant coffee £2.60

A Pint of Beer £1.60  Larger 2.00 

A one mile taxi journey £1.70

A one mile Bus journy £0.40

A 200 mile return Train journy  £35.00 second class off peak

a call out charge for the washing machine man from Norweb (big Company)
£70.00 

A SAT  £1200.00  + VAt @ 17%    not too sure on the price but not far
out

A tuning fork £3.75

A papps wedge £3.00 + Vat
 
100 hanmer Shanks £9.10 + vat

Ready cut damper felts for upright £35.00 + Vat
