accessing pianotech archives

Until Andy gets the multi-level archive directory going, you might
try this method for accessing the archives. Set a bookmark in your
web browser to:

    http://www.ptg.org/archive/pianotech.php/v1997.n1037

Which is the current archive as of this writing. There are about
1.5 new archives created each day. Then just manually edit
the URL field each time you check the archives. Change
the "37" to a "38". If it comes back with URL not found, then
that means that archive 1038 has not been created yet. I used
to keep a piece of paper next to my computer where I would write
down the most recent URL ending. Now I just edit the bookmark
properties every couple of days. You can always tell if you fetch
an archive that you already looked at. It "loads" immediately.
A new archive loads gradually. I find this method a lot fast
than going through the directory, and more convenient than
actually subscribing. I get my pianotech news about half a
day later than people who subscribe, and I don't have to
unsubscribe when I go on vacation. The archives download faster
than e-mails too. The only disadvantage is that if I want to
reply to a specific pianotech posting, I can't just hit
"Reply". I have to cut and paste the archive text into my
Eudora e-mail and manually insert the pianotech e-mail address.
