Hi Peter,

The basic answer is slowly.  It will have to be ground off with a
grinder.  You cannot use heat cutting tools (torches) with damaging the
plate.

Get a 75 mm grinder which can take grinding wheels or sandpaper.  This
tool can be used to grind wood (fitting pinblocks to plates) as well as
grinding.

Carefully consider how the metal removal will effect stress holding
abilities.  Plates are rountinely ground in the foundries so that it not
the issue; safety is, your's, the piano's and any prospective owner's.
