Ah yes, the Steinway leg mounts with the silly wedges. I once helped deliver a $25,000 Steinway. It seemed almost embarrassing having to beat on this expensive piano to set the wedges (and them wonder if they'll stay tight). Consider how the Asians mount piano legs--steel bolts into steel plates. The Steinway method is archaic. Ron: Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. It just seemed like an appropriate time to insert this complaint. ---------- From: Ron Nossaman[SMTP:nossaman@SOUTHWIND.NET] Sent: Wednesday, August 26, 1998 4:13 PM To: pianotech@ptg.org Subject: S&S leg wedge Hi all, I just got a call from one of my colleges. They have lost a Steinway leg wedge and want me to bring them one Monday when I go to start the Fall tunings. I don't have any laying around, or one in the shop to copy. I would be most grateful (no cash though) if someone would post me the measurements, including overall length, top width on big end, bottom width on big and little end, thickness, and whether my picture is flipped the right direction or not so I can make a couple. There's a real possibility this might happen again. _____ / \ / \ / top width \ _______________ \ | \ \ | big end \ \ | \ |____________________\ bottom width Many thanks, Ron
