Have a Steinway A2, 6'2'', 1901. I rebuilt it last year. Was manufactured with dampers ending at c# 65. Don't recall seeing many pianos with open D 66. Adds quite a bit extra resonance to some notes. It is pronounced especially in D major, G major, with D66 vibrating sympathetically. In Eb major, eb 67 is not quite as bad, in e major, e 68 is yet a little better, and so on. But D66 is quite a bit more then I'm use to. ?????? Would you say that a "wetter" sound was sought after back then? How many of you would prioritize keeping the piano as "Original" or would choose modify it adding a few extra dampers? David Renaud RPT
