 Dear List,

I am preparing to replace hammer return springs on a K & C compact action.
 Do you have any
tricks or special tools in removing the old spring tails and inserting the
new ones other than ordering a new rail with springs already attached?

Steam old spring rail felt off and remove the springs w/pliers or hemostat.
When inserting new springs, run a brass rod through the loop of each spring.
This will help you line up the springs and get a tight fit. Install new
spring rail felt using animal hide glue. If the previous job was used w/hide
glue, you will appreciate how easily the felt will steam off.

Hope this helps.
