Dear Listers,

After having read all these e-mails about all these different versions
of tunings, and all the words flying here and there, I had this
afternoon suddenly a certain thought that I wished to express to you.

I had been working all morning on a very very beautiful Yamaha C7. I
regulated it, tuned it (by ear, the "old fashioned" way), and I voiced
it.
Afterwards I played the instrument, and I was smashed by its beauty, the
velvet power, the wonderful and smooth touch, and, I was enjoying the
ease with wich it had been possible to shape this diamond.

And then I thought :
What in heavens name are they fighting about all the time? This
instrument sounds so incredibly nice, the tuning I put into it was a
nice "classic tuning", with 25 years of experience behind it.
You know those moments, you are tired after a long and intensive work,
and then you fully enjoy the beautiful result... (Come on! this is not
meant as an egotistical blah blah).

Then there occurred this thought about the flamings too and fro on this
"our" list, an s I mused:
So, if this instrument sounds so very nice, then what is wrong with the
tuning that had been taught to me by very gifted instructors?
Why do I constantly have to see these hateful letters from some person
who obviously is not aware (and certainly never will be as I see it now)
of how disturbing it is to have to witness nasty and revengeful attacks
on everybody who has a different opinion?

I am sure that most of you understand what I am talking about. We all (I
suppose) enjoy the fruits of our labor, and we try to achieve the best
result possible.
I am even doubly sure, that most of you would have enjoyed todays result
on this grand piano, so I know << that there is nothing wrong with that
ET tuning.
Even if the tuning is not completely 100 % (nah, so what?), it would
still be a pleasure.

After having written this so far, I realize that in fact this is not
really about tuning, but rather, it is the fight and the heavy laden
atmosphere on the List that causes my troubled feeling.
I am ready to say this:
If we feel that we have to continually defend ourselves and as a result
must attack the other(s), then surely there is something terribly wrong
with either all of us or the other.
So please, consider this and take measures, because I feel poisened by
this nasty behaviour.
As I said before, either delete, ignore, do not react, or unsubscribe.

I might opt for the last on a temporary basis, because I realise that
some people are so granite-like hardheaded that they will never ever
back off by themselves.
That is one of the major reasons why war exists in all its ugly forms.
I am very certainly not a coward, but I would rather have the opponent
melt down in his own hot and damaging narrow minded fire.

Am I clear.. or what?
