Restringing just the bass

Gee I think I see,

1. Take tuning pin and enlarge hole slightly to at least size 24 wire

2. place in vice and lop off  threaded  part 1/4 below the hole 

3. throw the threaded part away

4. cut slot from severed end to hole

5. smooth cut end so that it will not mar the plate when used in tight
quarters.

When you say" cut the pin 1/4 inch below the hole"...do you mean saw it
> > off...thus making a short dummy pin???
