I'm afraid you are 100% correct.  I remember reading an article about
changes at Steinway.  This was before I went into piano work.  I beleive
the article was in the Smithosonian magazine, a pub of the famous museum
here in Washigton, in the late 80's. 

The article made it sound like these folks were cutting corner's that
piano men (and women) would never consider.  

On top of that, most folks don't stay at the same job more than 4-5
years.  I think this could make it very hard for any paino company to
maintain any sort of continuous game plan.

Oh, well.
