Brass Rail

Hi List,
There was a class I attended once that showed how to anneal a brass
rail.
It was a matter of heating it to a high temperature for an amount of
time, and then it became flexible again. With the rail off, it was easy
to tell if it had 'crystallised' or not.
If you can get it in time, a couple of repair clips might be enough and
salvage the rail.
I can't find my notes with the specifics of temperature and duration of
heat.
I did wonder, if a self clean oven on clean would work? Any thoughts
from the metal experts?
