Brass Rails-correction

Dear List,

The Baldwin brass rail action I mentioned in the last post is in perfect
condition-I only needed to replace the worn hammers and dampers. This
action is in excellent condition otherwise.

BTW, aside from the bad experiences I and many have had with brass rail
actions, I personally think they were a good idea...perhaps just not
totally worked out. What about stainless steel for a rail? Would it
just be too expensive or are there other negatives I haven't thought of
besides the traveling issue???

In fact, the action I worked on before this Baldwin had the wooden
flanges with the brass hammer butt plates and after spacing and
tightening all flanges/butt plates everything tightened up like new. And
this action was from 1908.

Regards,
Greg Torres
