Dear List, The Baldwin brass rail action I mentioned in the last post is in perfect condition-I only needed to replace the worn hammers and dampers. This action is in excellent condition otherwise. BTW, aside from the bad experiences I and many have had with brass rail actions, I personally think they were a good idea...perhaps just not totally worked out. What about stainless steel for a rail? Would it just be too expensive or are there other negatives I haven't thought of besides the traveling issue??? In fact, the action I worked on before this Baldwin had the wooden flanges with the brass hammer butt plates and after spacing and tightening all flanges/butt plates everything tightened up like new.
