Probably not the person in question but Isaac Sadigursky gave a great
class at the CA State Convention wherein he talked about replacing
hammer flange cords. 

You remove 88 hammer butts by loosening butt plates. Clean off old cords
from flanges.

Create proper lengths of cord by wrapping a 5/8" dowel with silk cord
and cut with a razor (stroke along length of dowel). Glue one end of
each length of cord to one side of each flange. Glue on other end.
Reassemble. No traveling required (unless you prefer working in your
shop ;-).
