Epoxy vs CA

Is this perhaps a result of the glue wicking away from the joint during 
assembly? Wouldn't the use of an accelerator keep the glue in the joint
and ultimately make a more permanent bond?

Balsa is very porous and I would think the end grain to be even more
trouble in this regard.  Without an accelerator the joint would have an
initial
tack but not have the strength for longevity.
