Hi all,
A few weeks ago I posted a queery regarding some buzzing in a Kawai RX2. I
had the opportunity to go to that piano today. It was still buzzing in the
same place it was 6 months ago when I wedged a full diameter hammer shank
dowel betwixt the stringer and the pin block. That ridded the buzzzzzzz for
a little while ...... long enough for me to cash the check anyway. Well,
today I found out that it's a R-O and not a RX2 ..... if there's any
difference. I don't know the particulars of any brands. I just tune 'em
and fix 'em. The buzzzzzzzz wuzzzzzzzz back ....... in the same place. I
removed the music rack tracks, (three screws each) and under them was a
screw that passed through the stringer into the rim. Removing them, plus
the three near the middle of the pin block/plate assy. allows for the
removal of the stringer. I found a piece of hard wood, about .025 thick, 1
inch by 1.5 inches. It had a remarkably uncanny similarity in pitch and
sound when I flicked it with my finger as the offending buzzzzzzz had. I
GLUED that puppy in place with a wee bit of PVC-E glue. I haven't the
foggiest notion what that silly piece of wood functioned as, since if it
were a shim, it no longer fit snuggly. I should've signed it before I glued
it in place with a date on it. Oh well. Another opportunity to annoy
someone by name has passed me by. Oh, uh, BTW, I only used enough glue to
barely keep that thing from BUZZZZZZing.
So, any of you caught a good buzz lately??
Bzzzzzt
