No question is a stupid question. A question indicates curiosity and a willingness to learn. If you are doing an F3 to F4 temperament and starting from A you will need to tune the three contiguous M3rds, but you cannot move A3 and you need to have a fitted F-F octave. Hence the beat of F3 is prliminary, depending upon the beats of A-C$ and C$-F. Mvving either of the Fs will effect A and C#.
