Hi Dick, The ad probably continued because the widow could not get the number changed without having the phone company tell everyone that the number was no longer in service. That is one of the problems with just having 1 phone, a bus line. The phone company jealously guards that extra profit. The 4 years would have given her plenty time to establish service under her name so her friends could find her.
