where do the broken needles go?

Dear Susan-the-cautious,

I have gone for 2 or 3 years without breaking a needle.  Then I get this
job, I don't know what it is, but I break every needle as fast or faster
than I can replace them.  It seems to go in spurts (of blood that is).

I am more afraid of the needles when I give blood than I am of the
needles when I leave blodd.
