Anybody ever done that to an upright? The old action has brass rails which are beginning to fail, and of course it needs hammers, shanks, wippens and damphers. Regards, Don Rose, B.Mus., A.M.U.S., A.MUS., R.M.T., R.P.T. "Tun >> I have replaced brass rail flanges with wood, rebuilding from the hammer butt and up. I came out very well. Bill Spurlock has a good method. Each screw on the brass rail comes to be around 4 flanges from screw to screw. Space and drill. To set your samples for hammer hanging, cut and salvage then ends of each section of the old rail, insert them on the hammer rail, the use the normal samples. So far what I have said is the hardest part of rebuilding the action. The other parts should not be too difficult. Remember to travel your flanges as well. Dave Peake, RPT Portland, OR
