That old a Steinway will have a leaf spring to push the tray down.  
It is possible for a damper lever spring to squeak but usually at a
higher pitch.
If the damper stop rail is too high the top flanges can scrape the
belly rail.
If the damper stop rail screws are very lose they can squeak.
It is possible for a damper wire to squeak but I admit I have never
see this.
If a damper wire screw is loose you can get a squeak.
