Decal Removal

    If the decal is sealed under the finish, you will have to remove the
finish, either by strippers or by sanding.  Normally the decals are
sprayed over to "melt" the decal into the finish.  Even if the decal
appears to stick out from the surface, it is more than likely to be part
of the lacquer finish.  You can almost plan on doing the finish over and
using a new decal.
    By the way, why are you removing it?  If you plan to do without the
decal, the wood will be darker where the decal was, and you'll see it
anyway.
