Is this the old 'Flemish' action. If the damper levers extend _under_ the key frame then you are and don't even try to regulate to standard specs, the action will not work well. Use 1/8" let-off and 3/16" drop at a minimum. Jim Harvey's post is another starting point. It was about 1975 or so that they started using the Renner action. Before pulling knuckles I would thoroughly understand WHY this is a problem and not treat the symptom. Doing so will create even more problems. As an experiment put a .040 front rail punching under a flange and see how this effects regulation and performance. Check that the hammers are bored correctly. The difference from keybed to hammer center pin to string under side should equal the strike point to bore center. Check to see that the dip is not excessive. Check on the web to see if you can find a site for the company. Ask European technicians if they have had similar problems. There are 'knuckle busters' which can pull a knuckle out of a shank available from the supply houses. Talk to them. Understanding is absolutely crucial for good workmanship. Newton
