This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment I've been lurking out here for a few weeks getting the feel of the group = adn have come to the conclusion that I may have a little something to = offer. Re: Schaff Piano Supply - I suspect that they control their 800 number = after hours to prevent the wierdos from running up a big tab what with = questions, suggestions, you know - the obnoxious stuff that some people = come up with. I discontinued my own 800 number after a customer from 40 = miles away called me every few minutes on his journey to my shop to buy = bass strings, to let me know where he was. (?) There are (as already = stated) several other options for contacting Schaff, and I think you'll = find them to be one of the best in the business once you give them the = chance. Regarding polyesther repair - if you have half a brain and can follow = directions, there's no problem in doing these with the kit sold by = Schaff. At least that's been my experience. As someone else mentioned, = there is a lot of hand sanding and rubbing, but one can always go back = to a prior step in the process and "fix" what one did wrong. The biggest = problem with poly repair is the infrequency of repair calls, the shelf = life of the polyesther, and the price of same. But for what it's worth I = am told that under the right conditions, (45 degrees F), the poly has a = shelf life of closer to 18 months. You have to charge what you have to = charge! As an aside, I recently tuned a new Kawai in a parsonage and was = asked about the price of a DC unit. When told, the customer just about = shot me, as there was some fly-by-night SOB that installed a system in = their church piano a few months prior @ below cost and no labor.=20 I suggest you take a chance and charge accordingly - my 1st poly repair = was at regular price and it turned out perfect!
