This date also means that you need to be very particular about the parts
that you put in it. Make sure you know what your pin to knuckle distance is,
and be ready to dramatically lighten any modern hammer you put on it.
If the wrong knuckle distance is used, you will have either excessive
keydip or hammerblow accompanying some atypical weight readings. If the
hammer is 1.5 grams heavier than the original, you will have a very heavy
action. If you then use lead to reduce the "weight" of the keys, you will
have a heavy, sluggish action.
Try new parts on the old rails (they aren't split, are they?) before
ordering the complete set. These actions will really respond, but they need
their parts tailored to them.
