Steve and John: Thanks for your replies. The sticker rail is intact, and
was one of the first things I inspected. The action sits on balls. I do
think the action brackets did bend, as there is a damping problem, as you
suggested. I still have trouble invisioning how the support stud moved so
much and caused the capstan misalignment, but I haven't come up with any
other scenario.
