Years ago my dad built cedar hope chests for my three girls and a toy box for my son. After some of the kids got bopped on the head by a falling lid held up only by pretty gold chain I went looking for a solution. I went looking for that type of bracket at Home Depot. They had a nice selection of hardware including the type of lid bracket you are wanting, but I found four spring-supported lid props and bought them instead. Now the lids (much heavier than a bench lid) stay open until the kids close them. The hardware supports the weight just fine. Doug Garman, Assoc. Granbury, TX PTG Ft.
