I think you just have to go with your best intuition. Nobody has said 
they actually know how the fabric softener works its effect, so the 
only test for the long term is the Test of Time.

But If I had a set of hammers which didn't sound like felt, but more 
like crap, I wouldn't be shy to reach for a stool softener. <s-e g>
