Look for drunken cap lines and knuckle mountings.

Yamaha were one of the first to measure for vertical butt-flange travel
using potics. How 'bout this low tech method. Running through the set of
shanks, on an action model measure the DWs and UWs resulting the fixed
Strike Weight and Key Ratio but possibly 88 different shank ratios.
