Re-whatevering upright piano thingees

Oh Great Masters of instilling beautiful sound and wonderful touch
into heavy objects of wood, metal and wool ...

This very humbled student, wishes to inquire as to what one does about
worn backcheck felt on pianos that have strings in a plane perpendicular
to the earth. All of my meager attempts at acquiring a suitable
replacement have failed miserably. What I have been able to procure
seems noticeably thinner, of a differing density, having a strange
weave and some, seemingly saturated at the core with an elixir not
unlike glue sizing to stiffen the strange fibers. Attempts to use these
thinner substitutes could potentially interfere with the jack. That is,
unless, I put two bends in the backcheck wire to deform it away from
jack
toe. The only remaining possibility I can see (I am very near-sighted),
would be to purchase backchecks from a manufacturer that creates these
thingees in a similar form to what I need. Any assistance in coping
with this task will be very much appreciated and will elicit great
praise for the one responsible for easing my thirst for this knowledge.

Respectfully yours,

Kevin S.(Soon to take the exams) Riggs
