Has anyone ever thought about having a convention in a small town that is
accessible to rural/turist type sightseeing instead of always big city
stuff? Might be a nice change, say, once every 5 years.

The problem, Wally, is that there are very few small towns with hotels big
enough to hold us. Not just the sleeping rooms, but also the convention floor
space. The second problem is transportation. Flying into small towns is
usually more expensive than flying into larger hubs.

For instance, Columbus, Ohio, Lexington Kentucky, Birmingham and Montgomery,
Alabama, Gulfport Mississippi all have very good convention centers, but
flying into those towns would be expensive. On the other hand, New York, Los
Angeles, Chicago, have great facilities, but they are also very expensive.

The home office has been doing very well coming up with a combination of
hotels that are big enough in towns with good air service, while keeping the
room rate down.
