muting the sound of a grand

Thanks to all the many and varied posts regarding ways to limit the sound
production of a grand.  It was interesting to me how many different
approaches are used.

Also interesting was Ron's point that muffler rails seem to be absent
from this list of cures.  While common on uprights, I have only seen them
on non-verticals on the three square grands I service.  All three are
operated by a hand lever.  

Seems to have been standard equipment back then...
