Jim,
     Could it be that the key end felts are just glancing the damper levers due
to severe action misalignment causing occasional knocking/ticking noises of key
ends on neighbors' damper levers or keys getting held up by them.  Only happens
when the cheek block is in because the una chorda must be depressed to get the
bass end cheek block in on this particular piano?
