Staying in tune

Hi Phil:

There is a situation which is very frustrating in show venues where
bright lights are shown upon the piano only during performances. This
can knock the piano unisons out even before the concert.

It may be that your situation is similar to this. I would auggest going
to location during the pianist's performances and observing his playing
style. He may say that he doesn't play hard, but when you hear him in
concert, then you will know if this is the contributing factor or not.

In Las Vegas, some pianos are tuned once a week and others for every show.
When the high intensity Klieg lights come on during the show, one can
hear the piano gradually go out, no matter what you did in the way of
banging the keys while tuning. The amazing thing is that the next day
the piano will sound fine again until the lights come on. One solution
is to tune the piano after the lights have been on for about an hour or two.
