Lance asks: << have you seen new ones with lots of felt filed off? >> Yes, I have wondered about that, did the store do it, or did it come out of the voicing rooms with those little hammers........ ? The stock Steinway hammers are just a starting point, they harden and file,(sometimes then needle!) until they get the sound they want.
