Numbers are pretty, logical, dependable, and tend to be where you left them
when you return later. There aren't many things you can say that about,
including fetishes, beans and/or the counters thereof, former lives, or the
IRS. I don't know Alan, so I can't say about him. Besides, comparing a
number aficionado to a bean counter is obviously the work of a non
aficionado. It's the difference between an appreciation of the art, and
figuring the tax on the sale. One can teach you something the other can't.
Ever explore the Mandelbrot set? 

I'm also kind of fond of language.
