Hi Ron... both of you....grin..

Ron N and Ron O... perhaps I am reading something into your two seperate posts
that isnt there... but it seems like you two are not quite in aggreement on this
buisness about bridge pins.. ??

Seems like Ron O is of the opinion that the depth of the pins, and the role they
play in transmitting the strings vibrations is much more important then Ron N ??

If this be so... I wonder if Ron Overs could go into a bit more detail as to why
this is so. I understood your point about the string needing to terminate on the
pin, and not the wood, but on the other hand I know from own experience that you
can get quite a nice sound without bridge pins at all, as long as the strings
are secured to the bridge tight enough.

In this regard, I saw a "fix" once on an old beater where the bridge pins were
missing due to cracks that the "fixer" didnt feel were worth filling. Instead
he had fashioned a peice of brass just a bit wider then the strings, and screwed
this down on top of the strings holding them tight against the bridge.. grin..
made for a nice time tuning those few notes I can tell you.. but he had been
bright enough to make sure the leading edge was right at the notch fall off, and
soundwise.... well these were a darned sight better sounding then the
neighboring strings..

Anyways... would be interested in hearing more justification for each of your
reasonings.
