Dear Phil,
Everyone is going to offer their favorite recipe, according to their
beliefs systems, etc.
I, too, have experienced numbness & pain in both of my thumbs. The
MD's diagnosis was tendonitis, gave me a spint that supports the
thumb/wrist area, advice to eat lots of iboprufin
(anti-inflammatory/pain), and most importantly *rest* for the ailing
thumb.
Stop abusing the thumb! Switch hands while tuning. Use a "key
thumper" for test blows if that will help. Reduce your tuning
schedule if possible (shop work maybe?). Maybe this is the time to
earn that PhD in Manchu or particle physics that you never thought
you'd get around to.
Get second & third opinions. Yeah, you're happy with your
chiropractor, but get referrals to the MD specialists (orthopods?)
and consider their diagnoses.
I know, it's very disheartening to deal with, but with the proper
amount of treatment, rest and changes in ergonomics, I'm sure you'll
rebound.
