Paul We found that the #7 bridge pin actually makes a sloppy fit for the damper wire. There seems to be plenty of room for the felt to swell and shrink with the humidity. We did not do any measuring with humidity swings and how it may affect the bushings, but we did find that most of the pianos seem to use this size except Yamaha. They like to have their bushings a little tighter. South Eastern Minnesota has very wide swings in humidity. But, the techs in the area that I know don't mention guide rail bushings being a problem. We did mike the damper wire to compare it to the #7 pin. There is a significant difference, but I don't recall the dimensions. Regulate your dampers so the damper wire gently rides on one side of the bushing. We find this the most successful. Some of our jobs were done several years ago. To date we are not having any trouble.
