I'm not sure I agree with you. Next time you string a piano, measure the height of the plate strut over the bridge before you pull the tension up and after. Is that increase due to the plate rising as the tension is increased??? The board (wood) is further depressed by the increase in tension and the height of the bridge lowers reducing the tension and thus the pitch.
