yep....... a 1 inch sqaure (re: psi=pounds per square inch) measures more 
than 1 inch from corner to corner even in cross section. 
A 1 inch diameter circle/column has less area than does a 1 inch square but 
only the circle/cylinder measures exactly 1 inch at cross section.
