Hello Terry,

      I repair many older pianos and if I have a choice 
 I always go with what is closer to the orgional.  
      
      The springs you speak of  ( the orgional) almost 
 never give problems, while the ones made on the butt
 does.  I have also found the encore parts from Wally
 Brooks is one of the best if not the best available.
