The agraffes need to be replaced because the holes are enlarged and you can actually move the strings side to side in them. I almost always replace agraffes with restringing jobs to ensure clean termination. There have been times when I've had problems either getting them out, or getting them to match; an old Chickering comes to mind. Even in the case of old Steinways with the 7/32" shank, I've often thought of drilling out the whole for the larger 1/4" size and retapping to insure against future breakage.
