Very often I'll check a piano with F3 being the first plain strings and the 
number will be quite high... sometimes 3 times what it should be. The wound 
E below it gives a number much more in line with the rest. I'll tend to use 
the low number and just fix the break aurally.

Sometimes the numbers make no sense at all, particularly on rescaled 
pianos. A totally aural tuning is the only way to go (for me) in those cases.
