    At least there isn't any real need to get dirty on this job, anyway.

    I don't have any experience with cold weather cracking, so I
wouldn't have an opinion on the question you asked.  My guess is that if
it went BANG then there would likely be cracks!  Poly is somewhat
flexible, so it will  resist cracking to a point.    Impact almost
always creates cracks, and using a magnifying glass will reveal what's
going on inside the damage.
