Hello Everyone!

A wound string broke recently on a Samick-made Kohler and Campbell =
SKG400. The piano was built in 1993 according to the Pierce Atlas, and =
the customer bought it new about then. Trouble is, this is not the =
first time a wound string broke. In both cases, they were in the upper =
end of the bass section, and the notes in question weren't quite up to =
pitch yet. (No, I was not pitch raising.) While tuning the entire =
piano, I noticed that all of the strings in the upper bass section felt =
"uncomfortably tight," and got tighter still the closer I came to pitch. =
A little backing down of tension revealed that the tuning pins felt =
fine, so I doubt that tuning pin tightness would contribute to that =
feeling of "discomfort."

Is this a characteristic of Samick-made grands from this era? Can I =
count on other strings in that section breaking the next time I service =
the piano? Is there a remedy to this? Or am I stuck with replacing the =
string with a dead match that may break again all too soon?

Does anyone have an e-mail address for Samick's technical services?

Thank you in advance ---
